EVALUATION QUESTION 2 - How effective is the combination of your main product(video) and ancillary texts (digipak and advertisment)?

This is my music video
Password: Student

And heres my ancillary products

Digipak Outside

Digipak Inside

Advert

The first link you can see between all three products is the artists face. As he's a new artist it was important to advertise his face as well as his name. Throughout the music video many close-ups of the artist is used

We decided to use many close-ups of the artist as this is his debut album people will need to remember his face. I decided to use a close-up of the artist for the front panel of my digipak. I also have another close-up of the artist in the inside left panel of my artist. Normally on adverts theres only one image of the artist but I decided to go against this convention and include an extra close-up image of my artist, the extra image I used on my advert is the same image as the one in the inside of my digipak which again links both digipak and advert to each other.

Lighting is a big visual link to all of my products. In the music video we have many dark shots with light being shown in the background

You can see that although the shots are dark there is always some kind of light, either the moon, building lights or shop lights including our own screw-on light.

I decided to give my front panels image an effect so that it would give a dark effect but still with enough light to be seen...

I also decided to have a plain background to my digipak and advert so that people could see that the album is more of a night-time album to listen to while your partying which is shown in our music video.

For electro-pop colour is important!!

many artists in similar genre's as me normally has a specific colour that stands out on their album/digipak. These colours are mostly bright primary colours. I decided to follow these convention and decided to use the colours yellow and green

Here are a few examples of colours being used effectively on front panels of albums/digipaks.

The reason I decided to use the colours yellow and green was because I believed that no other colour would have worked with my plain black background. My initial idea was to use neon blue but after I tried it, I believed it didn't look to good so I decided to change it. Yellow is a bright colour that attracts attention and also links to my video. As my video had many dark shots with some lighting effects I believe you can link the plain background of my digipak to the darkness of outside and the yellow text to the lights that were outside when filming our music video.

If you look at my advert I still have the same colour scheme of yellow with a green shadow for my artists name and also white text.

My advert also consists the same font of my digipak, image from the inside of the digipak(close-up of artist) and also has the image of the digipaks front panel so people can see what is being advertised.

Although this is not very obvious, on the advert I have the albums name "Ready For The Weekend" just starting to go over his head, this is the same thing I did with the inside of my digipak where it says "Lyrics From The Hit Single Flashback"
