More digipak practice

Another digipak
During lesson, we ran over the task of creating another digipak in an attempt to jog our memories and introduce us to photoshop as the software can be a bit of a pain when trying to proceed doing the simplest of tasks. We as a class were allocated pictures of one of our media teachers Dan and issued to make a digipak of him. This proved to be fun as I turnt an english teacher into a middle eastern pianist...
Here is the new photoshop icon, it is no longer a image of a camera but a small blue box with the initials pse.
The image above illustrates Rebecca's (our teacher) very own digipak. This was deliberately a really bad example to reinforce the guidelines and make each and every student understand how ridiculous digipaks can come out. We were also shown a hall of shame showing students that did not comply to the guidelines. Additional rules were to not make the background fade into another colour as it screams student and just looks very unprofessional. Obvious flaws with this digipak include the album title being bigger than the artists name and stretching across the artist face, The non existant spine and the colour scheme that has no actual complimenting colours and colours very loud and not muted.

This is Dan. Here you see me sprouting some facial hair for that traditional Middle Eastern look. I zoomed in and adjusted the brush and began lightly stroking near his upper lip and near his chin. This acted as a base coat but this was proving to take relatively long so I just got a thicker brush and began painting away carefully not to make his hair look artificial. I also just went over his eyebrows as now it didn't match his newly grown beard, that also applied to the hair on his head.
The background of the album was a very bland grey to compliment the white font used. The mistake of making Dan's name smaller than the album name was a rushed mistake. The idea of having pianos in the background rose from the colour of the font which reminded me of a piano. Nothing was planned before this lesson, this was completely a freestyle in fact Dan was meant to look more french than anything but of course I got carried away with the paint brush. Overall I feel it came out fairly okay taking into consideration it was squeezed into a double lesson and really illustrates the fact that this part of the course will not be as complex to execute unlike the music video.

Errors include:
  • No spine, barcode, artist information or record label
  • No track listing
  • Artist name smaller than album name
  • When scaling dan down to size accidentally just modified it when should have pressed alt and then done so
