A video that goes against Laura Mulvey's Theory

Research on Music videos

Laura Mulvey's theory on representation isn't the case for every music videe! I was watching different music videos on Youtube and found a one that actually goes against her theory that women are 'dismembered'. The video 'Superbass' by Nicki Minaj , shows men haked naked, and shows them in parts. Below is the music video.

Although Nicki Minaj is still shown in a sexual/seductive way in the music video, the main focus seems to be on the males. Instead of there being numerous close ups of Nicki Minaj and her body parts such as her breasts or legs, instead there are close ups of men and their features. This goes to show that not every music video is created for the "male gaze", instead some are created for the female audience that are attratced to good- looking, muscular men!
