Analysis of Beyone's music video

Research for Music Video
Beyonce- 'Who Run the World'

I think Beyonce's video is one of the best example's of a good music video. This is especially because of the concept of the song. The song twists the stereotype that 'men are the dominant ones in society' as she tries to tell us that women can be dominant too and that they should be seen equal to men. In the video she portrays herself as dominant, superior and she certainly looks like she has a lot of power. She dresses up in a goddess- like costume and her performance at times looks like she is being violent. The concept of the video is 'women vs men' as it shows Beyonce and her gang of girls trying to have a dance competition with the men (in which the girls seem to win). In the lyrics she sings "Who run the world? Girls!" Beyonce certainly believes that woman are more domniant then men! Watch below so you can see what I mean.

I've taken some screen shots from her video and I used the images to create a collage below.

I took screenshots of the shots in the video where she looks powerful and dominant. The best pictures I have circles in red. The one in the middle, for example, where she is standing with her gang girls with a lion beside her - I think is a very good example that explains what I mean. Here, she is breaking the stereotype that men are dominant and fearful, as here she looks very powerful and she certainly looks like the leader of her gang!

Apart from the fact that the cocnept and the lyrics of the song sends out a strong message and tries to break stereotypes, the video is also excellent due to the good editing, good use of locations, mis-en-scene and performance. There are many different camera shots like close ups, medium shots, wide shots, establishing shots and so on and different effects such as jump cuts, slow motion, high and low angled shots and so on. The different shots are edited to the beat which makes it good too.
