Carol Vernallis's Theory

Research on music videos

Carol Vernallis studied camera work and editing in music videos and realised that edits in music videos come much more frequently than the edits found in films. She also explained that most videos are in a from of a disjuncture and that the editing is usually edited with the beat, so that it is rhytmic and closely connected to the song.

A good example of where edits are used to connect with the beat/rhythm of th song is in the music video "Every heartbeat" by Robyn.

An example of where very obvious edits/transitions are used is in the music video "Who's that Chick' by Rihanna.
