This year I feel that my technique when is comes to the research stage of a product has definitely developed and grown; in comparison to how I went about it in my AS year. One of the changes is that this year my research is more specific and easier because I'm researching a specific artist, genre, style and promotional package. This means it will be easier for me to compare/ cross reference videos of a similar style & genre to mine in order for me to accomplish the codes and conventions of that genre (Electro-Pop); whereas last year I was researching thrillers as a whole. This being such a massive genre meant that there were so many types of it to go through; on Google alone there are about 6,300,000 definitions. The tool that I have found most useful is YouTube because it contains such a wide variety TV clips, and music videos, as well as amateur content such as video blogging. The video blogging aspect of this I have particularly found useful because after watching a few of them, I have gained a real insight into how consumers think as a whole i.e. what they like most and dislike most in a music video. One thing that I was surprised about was how much useful research information newspaper and magazine articles contained in relation to my task this year, Below is an article I spotted in the newspaper that helped me with some of my research blogs:
