Analysing Calvin Harris's website

Planning for music video

I went on Calvin Harris's (the orginal artist of our chosen song) website to analyse how he has used it to promote himself and his songs....

First of all the background of the website is black, with disco lights at the top, this link to the electropop/electro house genre of music that Calvin classifies himself as. This is beacause this genre of music connotats/ represents disco's nigth clubs, having a "night out" and so on. The black background represents the darkness of clubs, or going out at night, and the lights represents disco lights in clubs. 

At the top of his website, it says his name, with an image of his face in the middle wearing what looks like 'disco glasses'. We immediately get the sense that the website is purely owned by him. The image of his face in the middle, acts almost like his 'logo', as this image is also used on one of his albums called 'I created disco'. His recent album 'Ready for the weekend', has a image of a women on it, however, wearing the same disco glasses, and so we get the idea that those disco glasses was invented by Calvin Harris. This is his logo- his image, say. Below are images of the albums I am talking about.

Calvin has released a new song with Rihanna which is called 'We found love'. Rihanna is a well-known artist worldwide, and so placing an image of her, in an attempt to promote their new song is a good way to persuade people to downlaod the tune. At the top of the image of Rihanna there is also a link that takes the audience straight to iTunes where they will be able to download the tune.

He has included a little post which shows all his recent Twitter 'tweets' (or in other words his 'statuses') . I think his purpose is to make his audience aware that he is using the this social networking site, in an attempt to get the them to 'follow' him on Twitter. The more followers he gets, the wider his audience, and therefore whenever he tries to promote his music (for example) on twitter, it is likely that a high majority of his followers on Twitter will take notice of his promotion.

He has included video's to his newly released singles. This is so that he can promote his song and get his audience to download it on iTunes or purchase his single that may be availbale to buy from superstores.

As well as an artist, Calvin is also a DJ. He includes picutures from when he had performed as at concerts and clubs on his website, so that his audience get a feel of what he does apart from being an 'artist'. Being a DJ is like his hobbie so he wants his audeince to share the passion with him...
