Examine the website for the original artist; Calvin Harris
www.calvinharris.co.uk
Calvin Harris's website introduces its viewer/fan with a banner showing his face, his name and his signature spotlight sunglasses which have featured on his album cover Ready For The Weekend (his brand image). We can also note the strobe lights that are a convention to his genre Electro-Pop instantly stating that the viewer has found who they were looking for and just generally give a look into his persona.
We can note from screen grab above the way in which Calvin Harris keeps his fans posted and aware by the way he has linked his "tweets" to his website, which we can see was only updated one day ago so it is very recent. Referring back to my music industry post, I mentioned that artists work is legally bought when a fan feels that they deserve it and down to the level of fan interaction and in that being said I believe that Calvin Harris is doing a good job as he also has his events and a newsletter on his website as well as the social networking sensation Tumblr.
Calvin Harris also includes promotion to his new single with Rihanna - We Found Love. Where he includes a link to the itunes store to purchase the single. To be fair he has not put much strain on the single so it is not like he is forcing his fans to purchase it. It also includes a note of when it was posted and the comments that have been left with it . In this case there was only one and it dates back to a week ago which further connotes that the website is updated regularly.
Featured also on his website is a short article regarding Calvin Harris's remix on Burns 2011 song - Iced Out where there is a Sound Cloud embedded onto the page allowing the viewer to listen to the song and even a link to download "exclusively", which in my opinion the word exclusively just urges the fan to download the song then and there especially to someone who is not technologically savvy . None the less a true fan would do so especially due to the big introduction stating how hard Calvin Harris has been working.
Illustrated above is some shots from a tour in Ibiza and a list of tour dates which give viewer a taste of what is to come from the shots and a general idea on when to look for it . The shots of the Ibiza are shown before you come across the tour dates to act as a magnet for fans to be intrigued by the shots and to wish that they were there and realise that this is coming to a town near them. Like all of the posts on his website, they are very new and frequent. Showing that it is updated regularly.
Finally before we reach the next page we see another link to a video Calvin Harris - Feel So Close , which is more to keep his fans posted with his new music and a ploy to get them to purchase it , if they approve of the song there is a link to Itunes to download it, so as previously stated not forcing his fans to buy his music but as to only suggest doing so.
Here are all of the songs included on the website to conclude this blog post, enjoy...
