After watching the second video from 2009-2010 I was very impressed with their final product.
If you put Carol Vernallis’s summary about editing and camerawork of music videos I believe this clip is a great example of how it should be done. Editing is done to the beat of the song with it never showing the same shot for too long. Most of the shots used are edited very quickly and on point.
The few good examples of this is at 0:14, 1:21 and also at 1:50.
There is many special effects used throughout the music video with techniques such as fades, split screen and also fade to white.
The main bass cuts of this music video is the singer is walking around in the park and singing, the singer performing on the bench he is lying on and also when the video keeps showing the past.
Videos are put into 3 categories, illustration, amplification and also disjuncture. I believe this music video should be put into the category amplification. This is because it cannot be illustration as the video does not show what the lyrics are saying, I believe its amplification because the lyrics is about love and the video relates to that.
The representation used in this video does not relate to Laura Mulvey’s theory. There is only a young man who is dressed and showing no body parts.
